PictureMichelle Benigno
Alpha Phi members were recognized Thursday, November 3rd at the 53rd NC Science Teacher Association (NCSTA) Professional Development Institute in Winston Salem. Michelle Benigno (NCSU - The Science House) received the Vi Hunsucker Award which recognizes an outstanding science educator who has gone and continues to go above and beyond the call of duty to serve students and teachers of North Carolina. This is the most prestigious award given by NCSTA. Laurel Hawkins (Owen Middle) and Emily Davidson (Franklin School of Innovation) received Outstanding Science Teacher Awards for middle and high school respectively. These awards are given to educators exhibiting leadership in science education; contributing to improvements in science education; and excelling in the aspects of science education. Outstanding science teacher awards are given at three levels across the eight NCSTA districts. These honors were determined as a result of professional excellence and contributions to science education in North Carolina.
